Why people reply to posts from trolls or people they don't like?

I mean...I try to ignore them, mute or block. I don't see the sense in telling someone how bad (s)he is. In the end, you can't do anything to avoid they come from time to time.

Sometimes it's a good question, or the person's so clearly uninformed it's hard to resist. But I have started just blocking people when they're saying really ignorant things and I don't think I'll want to speak with them about anything else.
