A lot of people don't realise the 40,000 Australians who were caught overseas when the pandemic began in Australia and refused entry back to their own country. Many were desperate to return to visit family, return to jobs and visit dying relatives only to have their requests denied as they weren't vaccinated. Some were even threatened with huge fines if they attempted to return. So it's no wonder that many aren't happy about a non-Australian sporting celebrity who's made it known that they are anti vax and manipulating the system to get here when they were denied. What ever my thoughts about Novak are, I don't necessarily blame Team Novak as they were just pulling all the strings possible, but i blame our Government being slow to recognise what was about to unfold with Novak months ago and not quietly and diplomatically dealing with it then, and now causing an international incident. Having said that, he had to go or the class action law suit from the 40,000 who were denied return would be huge. It's not really about tennis.

@SW-User Gosh. Those 40,000 should file a lawsuit right away.

What does Australian population think about fellow citizens being denied entry to their own country?

@Cierzo They've been furious for the past two years, this is why there's so much anger about the potential for a non-citizen getting the exemption that they weren't entitled to.

@SW-User I understand that, but directing that anger against Djokovic instead of the government is being fooled.

@Cierzo I agree, it's the government that let it all unfold so the anger should be directed at them and it will at the election coming up. Having said that Novak bears some responsibility, imagine bringing this entire controversy on yourself and denying yourself the chance to be the most decorated player in tennis's history all for the sake of not getting one vaccine like most of his colleagues did and like all Australians are required to do when entering their own country. How could he think he'd be made a special case above the rest of us? Tennis Australia gave him an exemption to play but not an exemption to enter the country, that is up to Immigration which i think Novak's team didn't quite fully understand which again is a fault of our government and Tennis Australia.
