Djokovic loses bid to overturn deportation - piss off

SW-User Best Comment
A lot of people don't realise the 40,000 Australians who were caught overseas when the pandemic began in Australia and refused entry back to their own country. Many were desperate to return to visit family, return to jobs and visit dying relatives only to have their requests denied as they weren't vaccinated. Some were even threatened with huge fines if they attempted to return. So it's no wonder that many aren't happy about a non-Australian sporting celebrity who's made it known that they are anti vax and manipulating the system to get here when they were denied. What ever my thoughts about Novak are, I don't necessarily blame Team Novak as they were just pulling all the strings possible, but i blame our Government being slow to recognise what was about to unfold with Novak months ago and not quietly and diplomatically dealing with it then, and now causing an international incident. Having said that, he had to go or the class action law suit from the 40,000 who were denied return would be huge. It's not really about tennis.

@SW-User I understand that, but directing that anger against Djokovic instead of the government is being fooled.

@Cierzo I agree, it's the government that let it all unfold so the anger should be directed at them and it will at the election coming up. Having said that Novak bears some responsibility, imagine bringing this entire controversy on yourself and denying yourself the chance to be the most decorated player in tennis's history all for the sake of not getting one vaccine like most of his colleagues did and like all Australians are required to do when entering their own country. How could he think he'd be made a special case above the rest of us? Tennis Australia gave him an exemption to play but not an exemption to enter the country, that is up to Immigration which i think Novak's team didn't quite fully understand which again is a fault of our government and Tennis Australia.

@SW-User You always write out very thoughtful and insightful replies

I want to know why Djokovic, Aaron Rodgers and Justin Turner, among others, think that the rules don't apply to them. I think it's because they are making people a lot of money. I am glad the Australians are sending him home, at least one of them is finally being held accountable. He is a jokeavic.

Now that the show boat has departed, we can enjoy the tennis 😀

All three Judges agreed with the Immigration Ministers decision
No other avenues of appeal

He deserves it. He lied and was selfish.

why do celebrities think they are above the law

Now we gotta take him back in Europe 😪 can you guys just ship him to the U.S?
zonavar68 · 51-55, M
He did not comply with the letter of the law for his claimed 'exemption'. The fact he is a Covax refusenik like me has zero to do with it. I would not be able to travel internationally because I refuse to get Covid drug jabs. Novak just happens to have a lot of money to afford a crack legal team at short notice. In my view it's Tennis Australia that threw him under the bus. The other two people (female player and an official) using the same visa entry exemption already left the country without a fuss.

Australia's loss. 🤣
nedkelly · 61-69, M
@KiwiBird Now he may be banned from Wimbledon and The French and US open
KiwiBird · 36-40, F
@nedkelly I haven't heard that. He wasn't banned from the Australian Open, in fact he was the number one seed and was being allowed to play, so no precedent.

Immigration and Commonwealth Health concerns is why he was booted.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@nedkelly The Spanish are looking into his stay there, because his statements to Oz dont line up with their rules. Of Cpourse. He will be welcome as a conquering hero when he plays in the Serbian Open.😂

{@nedkelly] yes you are right he should never of been let into aus but you say it as it is ned 😄

Chistralia is a rogue country.

@Cierzo absolutely spot on, tyrants under the guise of health
Cierzo · M
@ididntknow When a country where most of the population is vaccinated does not allow foreigners or even nationals to enter because they are unvaccinated it can only mean two things:
1- The government does not really trust the efficacy of vaccines to protect the population. Therefore they are lying to them and should be held accountable.
2- They are simply showing their authoritarism with arbitrary measures.
@Cierzo he could have also showed a legal exemption...or, more to the point, not have lied on legal forms .

It wasnt the vaccination tjat was the problem....he broke the law, and lied on application forms .

He also lied in his own country.

There is a paper and media trail of indiscretions going quite a way back tjat show conflicting information.

And he's had to face up this time....and be held accountable.

Edit...dang!
cierzo just blocked me.

Can't handle the truth eh?
