We must realise that the Bible is giving general principles here of life. Obedience to parents is the principle of life as it is parental responsibility of being kind and decent to children. Both are contained within the Bible. Of course God does not expect us to lose our intelligence and believe that children are supposed to obey abusive parents without question as the Bible specifically tells parents not to abuse children.
