What does it mean when something is "meta"?

Like the new matrix movie?
mikeylyksit · 41-45, M
It refers to a (future) VR world. Think of it like the next era in technology. 1st era, before the Internet. 2nd era, was the Internet. 3rd era, virtual reality. The backbone will still be the Internet, obviously. We'll just be using the bandwidth in entirely different ways. I think within 20 years probably (at most) we will all have wearable computers. Like, we will be online all the time. Desktop and laptop computers will be "quaint" much like VHS tape players are "quaint" today. We are halfway there. The average mid-range cell phone is much more powerful than personal computers of just 20 years ago. Some computers now are being powered by CPU chips that were originally designed to run cell phones. And they have awesome performance, too. Over time, tech gets more powerful, more energy efficient, and smaller. Think of a computer the size of a pair of sunglasses that you can use to do anything you would use a desktop computer for, today. Meta. Facebook knows this is the future, which is why they aren't calling themselves facebook anymore.

Wow, all of this sounds just dreadful.
Sometimes I go out without my phone, I just want ME time.
Horrible thought being online 24/7

@Robynthebeautiful Well, it won't be for everybody, obviously. But we all know people who might as well have their cell phone glued to their hands as they never put it down...
THOSE are the types who will love the meta...
Think of the word *meta*phor, often great in language, but not necessarily something you want to live?

Pretty much the same bullshit we had before..

Once our "leading experts" surmised that we are probably living in a simulation, the idea then was to sell this concept to the humans, and make them think that they are entering an entire new realm era, but not really..

The red pill is simply to accept death.
