Still no love lost between Democrats and Republicans.

You would think that everything that has happened in the past 16 months would have brought us together, but nope. We've instead become even more divided. I guess some people would just prefer the latter.

It's funny because here in America at least, the ones preaching about patriotism are the ones who oppose each and every single idea that would bring us closer together. I'm not saying to agree with every single one...I don't 🤷‍♀️. At some point though, something has to give.

As a foreigner it's not for to take either side, and I don't; but reading reads threads like this outside you can see Latinlaybug's point entirely.

Some respondents are civilised; but on the whole there is just so little give-and-take, analysis, compromise, highlighting mistakes or praising successes. Just insults, often larded with childish obscenities, even for being supporters of one or the other party.

Those of you who can't debate your own nation's internal politics in a civilised manner on a public forum used overseas, seem unable to see that you drag the reputation of your own country down, irrespective of which party you support.

We abroad don't take your domestic sides but we do see the bitterness, the censorship or foul-mouthed abuse of people of opposing views, the armed gangs and their conspiracy-fantasies, the cults, the open racism; and while even our own nations may have some parallels, to us they make USA look as if about to implode.

The other aspect you don't realise is that many countries despise America, the UK, Europe etc. and their ways of life. Although those anti-"West" governments are hardly likely to read this site, they do know what is going on there, and all the openly, bitter divisions and rancour play into their hands.

All multi-party democracies air their problems, differences and divisions in public; but the USA seems to depress them to a level of her own and show them to the world she still thinks herself "leading".

Have robust debates, you Americans, on whatever you think the right way to run your own country... but for our own sakes try to avoid merely swearing and insulting each other merely for differing party allegiances! You only do yourselves and your nation down.
