Where they right to blame Germany for world war 1? Why why not

The US blames Germany for bringing us into the war but historically all of Europe is to blame for WW1. All those mutual defense pacts and alliances on top of the powder keg political climate at the time it was bound to happen.

As for the US comment, the US was only lightly involved sending aid to the British/french and Americans serving in British, Canadian and french units until the Germans sank the Lusitania which instigated the US to take a more active role in the war effort
@tallpowerhouseblonde I always found that particular war interesting.

@Callmewhatyouwill WW1 is immensely interesting and ironically glossed over by most historians and classes. It is way more interesting with much greater future consequences on the geopolitical spectrum than WW2. Less shocking sure, but the consequences and the reasons it happened are still going on. Understanding WW1 tells slot more about our current situations than WW2 does or did.

It was those Austro-hungarians and the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand that sent Europe into a spiral. Austria declared war on Serbia after Germany basically just said "do whatever" which got the Russians involved and then Germany had to get involved then declared war on France as part of the Schlieffen Plan, and then Britain got involved because the Germans went through Belgium.

@MethDozer A young chappie by the name of Princip, I believe. Austro-Hungary may have over reacted a little, but I guess that Franz WAS the heir to the throne...

@walabby Plus the Serbians/Bosnians screwed themselves since Ferdinand was actually pretty progressive and sympathetic to their causes.

@MethDozer I didn't know that but not surprised. Fanatics rarely do much research before doing radical things...

WW1 was started because of a series of complicated treaties where countries agreed to help other countries should they be invaded. The armistice agreements that ended WW1 played a major part in starting WW2.

the victor always blames the loser.... but I'm sure there is more to it then just pointing
right or wrong.. they got it..

For starting it?

Nah, WW1 didn't really have a right or wrong side and there wasnt really any one aggressor causing it. It was just a clusterfuck of the aristocracues trying to hold onto and preserve monarchist era prestiges.
