Is it hard to figure out your role in life when your child no longer requires you to parent them?

My mum seems to find it hard that at 30 I'm firmly making a point if being independent free thinking adult.
She doesn't want the responsibility of caring for a child. But wants the enjoyment of having a tag along to the things she wants to do.
Part of this entails flattering me to meet up with her after days of her odd moods.
Then she will insult me followed by a back handed compliment.
If I start to show annoyance suddenly I'm ruining the day again.
If I don't argue its followed by silence then her attempt to comment on everything jokingly until I laugh.
And the cycle starts all over again.
