I don't drink alcohol anyway, so I don't see myself randomly taking it up so I can quit if I ever get my vaccine letter.
For what it's worth, I just transferred my carer card over to my new purse - though I doubt that that's even worth whatever it is printed on, given that the press is now encouraging everyone to apply for one of these cards in an attempt to jump the vaccine queue.

@HootyTheNightOwl Good points, regarding schools but what worries me is how they get to and from there. Tories have an idealistic view of mummy and daddy dropping their little darling off at the gate the collecting them later, when in reality most of them crowd on trains or buses, without masks, then those who are taken and met by a parent are usually taken into supermarkets on the way home. I'm adamant that another spike will happen between now and easter, another two months wasted.
@BeerMonster From what I have seen, its usually only teenagers on our buses... and credit where credit is due... most of them have been good with masks. Adults, on the other hand haven't been as good as the teenagers.
Our 10 and unders are mostly near enough to school to not make it worth paying for bus fare to take them to school.

@HootyTheNightOwl I've witnessed loads of kids boarding trains and leaving stations in large groups without masks, it saddens me to think that it will happen again due to Boris failing yet again. Tested or not, they will still spread it.

It's going to be a long time before I get the vaccine, lots of other higher priority/more vulnerable people have to get the shot yet. But I will definitely be keeping that in mind. I'm kind of nervous about the possible side effects of the vaccine, so anything I can do to avoif complications, I will.

@AmbivalentFriability I had a dull pain in my upper arm and shoulder next day, it lasted about 36 hours, I also felt tired and kept falling asleep watching tv but that only lasted the same length of time.

@LadyJ I hear you! I've got gin and sloe gin, elderflower champagne and beer and it will be summer when I have my 2nd, no beer in the garden for two weeks in summer... righty oh!
Keepitsimple · 56-60, F
I’ll avoid alcohol for 2 weeks if I could get the vaccine. It would be worth it.
BeerMonster · 51-55, M
@Keepitsimple Three days before and two weeks after is what they advise. I usually have a drink every weekend but i didn't miss it at all.
Quetzalcoatlus · 46-50, M
Not yet but I’ll ask my doc.
BeerMonster · 51-55, M
@Quetzalcoatlus They always advise refraining 😆 Even though they enjoy it themsleves
exexec · 70-79, C
Too late. I had both shots and didn't refrain from alcohol.
BeerMonster · 51-55, M
@exexec Oops, maybe refrain after the second
exexec · 70-79, C
@BeerMonster As I said, I've had both shots.
BeerMonster · 51-55, M
@exexec Sorry, I mistook 'shots' for what we call shots here, little measures of spirits. my mistake 👍
Elessar · 31-35, M
I had my shots 🥃🥃
BeerMonster · 51-55, M
@Elessar I hope you waited 3 months between each one! 🤣
Elessar · 31-35, M
@BeerMonster like 3 minutes lol
BeerMonster · 51-55, M
@Elessar It takes you far too long to pour a drink!
Atlotto · M
Have you had your vaccine yet?
I have not, and will not.
BeerMonster · 51-55, M
@Atlotto I'm no expert but I think immunity is temporary, best to seek proper advice on that one.

pianoplayingsteve · 31-35, M
I’d recommend avoiding alcohol for 12 months after each shot.
pianoplayingsteve · 31-35, M
So then you don’t think we should refrain, it’s only the health secretary that thinks that? @BeerMonster
BeerMonster · 51-55, M
@pianoplayingsteve I think we should use a bit of common sense and not have any at all for 2 weeks, better safe than sorry.
pianoplayingsteve · 31-35, M
@BeerMonster better be even safer and never drink alcohol again as it causes liver cancer with a mortality rate greater than covid.
