I don't really think there's a right answer to this.
Some people (like me) couldn't wait to leave and moved out at 18 and never looked back because of toxic parents.
Some people get along great with their folks, and they continue to live at home but have their own adult, independent lives.
Some people stay with their folks because they're cheap, or lazy, or not yet out of the child mentality (still want their parents to take care of them); OR their parents are strict, controlling, and don't want to let their adult children move out- both of which are unhealthy.

Depends on if you are American or not. Other countries don't treat it as a big deal. But if you're an American without a job or house at 18 you are a loser.
