Is that suicide?

If somebody finds out that they have a fatal disease. They have the money to get really good medical treatment and cure it, but they decide not to.
The conscious decision not to get the treatment, would that count as taking your own life?
SW-User
No, because suicide is the act of killing yourself rather than just letting yourself die from an event beyond your control.

@Dan193 Sure, but you take action in cutting your wrists. Inaction and action are the key things. If you are going to die and you don't prevent it, you have taken no action. If you weren't going to die but you do something to cause death, you have acted. Think of it this way, if someone else is dying and you could save them but you don't, you couldn't be charged with murder. If you kill them you could.

@SW-User what if you do backflips on the edge of a tall building, and u accidentally fall? That is taking action, no?

It probably depends on a lot of other factors. But mostly if the intent is suicide then yeah I would say so, but if they just don’t want treatment because they’re afraid of doctors or whatever then not really

@Dan193 well no, even if they’re putting themselves at risk they’re still trying not to die?
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@adorbz trying not to die 😂 Nice

@Dan193 well they are! 😅

LOL. Of course it ain't! Do you think we're gonna live forever? We're all gonna die from something
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@SW-User yeah, but that one u can control. That's where the dilemma comes from.
SW-User
@Dan193 Nope there aint' no way in hell that is the same as taking your own life.

Its different in the sense that suicide is you choosing death and the other is death choosing you and you accepting it, no matter if you can cure yourself or not.

Have read a post recently that makes me want to state neither is to be judged. Neither is selfish, and makes me ask if there is such a thing as a right for choosing to live or to die, because why deny someone peace renting on about life being beautiful when it clearly isn't for them. Why is the gov so interested in preventing it?

It counts as taking responsibility for your own life.
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@SW-User what does that mean?
SW-User
@Dan193 consciously deciding how and whether to live.
