I think what most people want is to be heard.
So if one talks just enough to ask a few questions and mirror back their reality in brief, most are usually very happy.
Rare are the ones who are curious enough to ask, and good at an equal free flow.
Even rarer, those who are open to real discussion about ideas.
Mutual silence is actually quite an intimate thing - it takes a level of feeling comfortable and familiar with someone - having got past the words and being able to just be together.
