its exciting when it starts out with a theme, like the outlay of a ground bass in baroque music...here's an old classic rock example:[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxyOhFBoxSY&list=OLAK5uy_m7KTh7Y4TYbT6B2EBcdTXpit-ifNoqvRI]

@Elevatorpitches thank you
@jhontomreturns1 and I also love hearing the bass line singing the main melody. I love the idea of any part in the band becoming the leader just for the muisicality of it. The rock band "The Band" felt the same about their singing..

It can do anything. It depends what you want to do...
It has a strong rhythm section role and should work with the drummer. But it can pick up counter melodies, bounce of what the other instruments are doing, counterpoint...
If you're inexperienced - stay close to the drummer.

Bass is the melodic side of the rhythm section.

Bass if a part of the rhythm section
You can give it a kind of melodic focus though

@DDonde ok, thanks bro.

Bass should be in sync with the drums, but you can definitely play bass leads and bass solos. See Entwhistle for example.
