Why do both humans and animals do this?
People seem to sleep on the couch when they are sick, animals usually go off in some odd spot to sleep where they normally don't

My cat only picks five places to sleep. Doesn't matter if she's not feeling well.
My chair, her cat tree, the floor in the living room, my bed when I am not sleeping in it.
Yet she usually ends up on her own little round bed on one of the two couches if I am sleeping for any length of time.
I always sleep in my bed with the door closed.
