Suicides have a choice. Unborn babies don't.

But both are sad. :(

@Ksmile14 and the woman has a choice👍🏽

@SW-User But unborn babies don't.

@Ksmile14 you’re engaging in a false equivalency logical fallacy. something unborn and something that is born are not the same thing.

@Ksmile14 babies don't make choices ever. Because: they are babies.
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
@Ksmile14 babies also do not get aborted. Fetuses do.
@Ksmile14 Some people believe that your life begins at conception despite you not having a mind, feelings, or thoughts. But that's all it is, a belief, one that isn't backed up by facts. A belief held by some should not control the reproductive rights of others. Forcing someone to carry a pregnancy to term is not a kindness done unto the child they give birth to.

@SW-User We are all different. Men are different than women. Babies are different than adults. The born are different than the unborn.

You're right. A woman has a choice. She can have her baby or kill it. A suicide has a choice...to kill herself or not. The only being without a choice in this question is the baby.

@JaggedLittlePill I guess it's a question of definition....what is a human being? I guess I just don't understand how anyone can look at an unborn child and not see a human being.

@AmbivalentFriability Then when does a belief become a baby?
@Ksmile14 Apparently a fetus has some consciousness at around 5 months old.
It's a complicated point that no one can seem to agree on.

As precious as a potential life, a potential person, is, I don't think a potential unborn person should have more rights than someone who is actually living. I understand that the "pro-choice" argument can seem cold, but I don't think anyone should ever be forced to give birth and have their life permanently altered. Not only that, but reproductive rights including abortion can and has saved lives. Sometimes both the mothers and the fetus' life is lost if an abortion isn't performed. I think it is ridiculous to say that is preferable to let both die than to perform a medical procedure.
I don't think people value the life of a very alive and conscious woman nearly as much as the potential person she carries.
If people are so worried about potential persons, maybe they ought to be crying every time a woman loses an unfertilized egg every time she has her period.
We are more than vessels for producing more people.

Every woman should have the right to make these very personal and difficult decisions themselves.

@AmbivalentFriability Thank you for making a good compassionate argument. You almost never see it when people are talking about abortion.

I guess my thought is that we should alway error on the side of life. And if we don't know whether it's 4 months or 5 months, I'd say we error on the side of 4 months.
@Ksmile14 Agreed. People can be very closed off when it comes to difficult discussions like this.

In the USA Around 90% of abortions happen before 12 weeks (3 months). Sometimes people are scared, don't have nearby access, or aren't financially able to have the procedure done which accounts for some of the ones done later. 1.3% of abortions happen at 21 weeks (5 months). I think it is rather safe to assume that if you have carried your pregnancy for that long you want to give birth. Unfortunately sometimes it isn't safely possible.

I will never agree that it's right to force someone to have a child when they are not ready to.
@Ksmile14 What do you think of the choice of a sexually assaulted girl or woman who becomes pregnant ? This post is a follow up from another one from this poster.

@bijouxbroussard I'd think there would be plenty of chances to terminate the pregnancy before it becomes a baby that can live. The day after pill should be something every rape victim gets.

@AmbivalentFriability I guess we aren't gonna agree but thanks for being nice about it. :)

@Ksmile14 that is considered an abortion by some, some also won't allow contraceptive pills!
@Ksmile14 Agreed. But some states are trying to prohibit that, too.
