When growing up, how were you taught to regulate your emotions?

Just curious as it isn’t something you see parents actively teach their children from what I see

My mum loved being mysterious (passive aggressive) and would tell everyone how stoic she was, but tbh the lady runs on emotions and they over-floweth - not in a good way because I think she feels some sort of shame in expressing emotion. It's weird.

As for me, as I parent I am big on emotions. I think it is so important for kids to be given the space to express the full gamut of their emotions.
It’s not something I was taught in my household, my mother could not regulate her emotions so I pretty much shut mine down. It is something I teach my daughter and is part of the school curriculum, so I do think there is much more awareness of it’s importance these days

Or maybe more like this...😂
