Why are doctors such meanies? They have no filter!

A couple weeks ago when my doctor saw my weight when it says “251” on the scale. Her smile faded away. She got in my face BIG time and scolded at me, “You are 251 pounds, you are not following the weight loss plan I gave you months ago. Also your picking is out of control and damn it, you are at the borderline of diabeties!!”
I was shocked. She was so rude to get into my face. I said, “Diabetes? No! I think I’m healthy. Most people are average.”
She said, “NO. To put it bluntly, you’re fat.”
Wow rude. Then I said, “Wow that...that was harsh. Everyone is average!”
Then she shot back at me and said, “That’s because those people are fat and lazy! Unless you want your family to plan your funeral soon, I suggest you follow the weight loss plan! Don’t argue with me!”
That shut me up. My aunt was so mad at me for now following the doctors orders and she said the doctor is right. And she gave me a blunt lecture. Why are doctors assholes? Excuse my language I’m sorry.

It is a doctor's job to tell you the truth.

It's what the patient is paying for - to help the patient get healthier and stay alive for as long as possible.

Also, if the doctor did not tell you this in a very forceful way, she could be sued for negligence, and possibly lose her job (lose her licence to practice).

The truth is, according to American government statistics,
66.6% of Americans are dangerously overweight.
So what seems normal, because you see it everywhere, is actually a cultural disease caused by too much wealth and poor diet (eating the wrong kinds of foods.)

This creates a huge burden on society due to the enormity of the medical costs when these people start developing long-term serious and fatal health conditions.

Diabetes is one of the most common.
Some of the symptoms of diabetes include: excessive hunger, excessive thirst, fatigue, weight gain, frequent urination, blurred vision, and poor wound healing.
Wounds often become infected, and if not properly treated will turn to gangrene and can result in amputation to save the person's life.
When lacking slow-release energy, a diabetic may fall unconscious.
In days gone by, diabetes was also a cause of blindness, though due to treatments this is now very rare.
Diabetes is deadly if not treated.

Diabetes is a very serious disease.
I can guarantee you that even though going on a diet and exercising is difficult, having the disease is far worse.

The other issue, picking and self-harming, is also serious.
This type of thing, if you are unable to stop yourself, is a process-addiction and a compulsion. The wounds can become infected, and with diabetes that is dangerous.

Picking can lead to progressively more dangerous and self-harming behaviours. It can be treated, but you must be willing to choose and accept the treatment.

@hartfire Wow I had no idea. I don’t want them to go to jail, but she has no right to be rude to me! She’s mean! I complained to my dad and he said he’s siding with her because she is telling the truth. Giving me tough love and it isn’t the doctors job to sugarcoat it otherwise she’ll be in trouble.

@LaylaTheTallGirl

I am trying to tell you, she DOES have that right.

It's not just her right but her absolute DUTY to be as forceful as necessary in trying to convince you to accept the truth and do what is healthy for your own good.

It's possible that she may not have explained just how bad diabetes is. If not, she should have.

Your father is right.
One aspect of love is when a person must tell a truth that the other person needs to hear for their welfare.
It's called "tough love" when the person hearing it doesn't want to accept the truth.

@LaylaTheTallGirl
Just because you think she has no right does not make it so.

There is an objective reality in this world.

Your thoughts and feelings cannot change facts.

@hartfire I wanna change doctors but my dad likes her because she is honest and keep me in check and doesn’t let me off easy.

@LaylaTheTallGirl A new doctor would start out saying all the same things in a nice way.
But each time you failed to take their advice, they would repeat it in stronger and more forceful terms.
In the end, the new doctor would soon be talking to you in exactly the same way.
All doctors have the same legal duty of care - to tell you the truth.
