On feeling disappointed

Let me just be.
Give me time to grieve.
To wallow in the pain
Of being let down yet again.

I don't want to relive the past.
Compare the hurts and note the contrast.
Let me just swim in my disappointment.
That's my only concern in this moment.

Let me give company to my tears.
And feel the weight of the hurt.
Let the loneliness bleed out of my pores
While confusion and sorrow make love in my heart's shores.

I know one day things will get better.
My past self has taught me that.
One day, I will look back and wonder
Why in the world I felt so bad.

But for now let my heart bleed.
I will wait for the wounds to heal.
Let me find solitude in sorrow.
Let me just sigh until the morrow.

If more people just let themselves “be” to grieve, and others acknowledged the need for it, without trying to “cheer them up,” or give other asinine advice, like “move on,” when the person is in the throws of disappointment and pain, we’d all be getting along much better.
