Banks and law and big business want everybody to rely on a card.

That way your transactions are all logged on several different computer systems and judgement made on everything from what you buy in your groceries and how that determines the cost of your personal healthcare, to how long you can make your monthly income last and what % interest you personally should pay for any loan or mortgage secured by it.

And this is just the beginning.
Sooner or later this card will likely evolve to include a sample of your DNA; all your alcohol or tobacco consumption. The 'likelihood ' of you being a potential alcoholic or obese person. And from that point you will be limited in your scope for jobs; areas you can live in; limited travel via passport; cheap ineffective drugs to treat your problems as opposed to somebody earning far more and getting priority treatment with effective drugs as a result !

The current covid stuff is enabling businesses to initiate this stuff.
For weeks here the big supermarkets and stores have refused to handle cash claiming some nonsense about Covid-19 being present on cash yet shockingly not so on any debit/credit card !

This stuff is coming kids !
Unless folk start telling them loud and clear that it's unacceptable.

I get 20 questions every time I get my blood pressure checked when I se a doctor. I don鈥檛 like it. They are inappropriate, unrelated to my visit and invasive. I鈥檝e told them so too. I told them I do not feel comfortable answering these questions. And I don鈥檛. @Picklebobble2

@Picklebobble2 If that's the plan it'll never work. It'll be only a matter of time before some unofficial alternative currency takes over and fills the vacuum.

Unless we really expect that drug leaders, mobs, tax evaders and so forth renounce to their shady businesses all of a sudden to comply with electronic payment rules.
Picklebobble256-60, M
@Spoiledbrat Even here in the UK folk are being hassled by their Doctors to take and record their blood pressure if they're over 50.
I'm sure there's something else going on or coming in for those who regularly record high numbers.
TheSirfurryanimalWales61-69, M
@Picklebobble2 they鈥檒l be sending for me next month..my BP is fine except when I鈥檓 having it checked at the docs.
Picklebobble256-60, M
@Elessar But it's not even that is it.
Without cash you the customer have no bargaining power.
Every house; car; vacation...or anything else you might want to buy will have a price set depending on your earnings.
MoonpennyF
@TheSirfurryanimalWales I've had three blood tests in the last three weeks and I haven't been hassled for a BP reading.
Yulianna22-25, F
@Picklebobble2 where is your evidence for this?
Yulianna22-25, F
@Moonpenny it's ok,it's a conspiracy aimed only at middle aged men... there's probably some evil feminist organisation behind it.
MoonpennyF
@Yulianna I'm part of it 馃槀
SpoiledbratF
They鈥檙e more worried about how you spend your time than they are your heath. @Moonpenny
Yulianna22-25, F
@Moonpenny me too, that's how i know these things.
Picklebobble256-60, M
@Yulianna For a long time banks were happy using cheque books.
And then came cashpoints so folk could get their own money rather than issue cheques that may or may not be honoured by the banks.
Then came chip and pin. Remember the fuss they made over that ? And how it improved security ?

All these things were created because those with serious sums of money feared others making more than them or feared people ripping them off.

Then came all the Iraq war stuff. Remember how they used that to bring in ever more 'security' changes because they linked a free Internet to terrorist activity ?

It's just an ever increasing list of things that put the squeeze on you and me making independent decisions but allows business and the big money makers to ensure they stay at the top of the power pyramid.

@Picklebobble2 the reason for not handling cash in covid-19 is... Studies show SARS-CoV-2 will stay on metal surfaces for 72 hours. Use of card via "tap to pay" the customer never hands card over or indeed needs to touch the card reader just hold it close enough. The limit was raised to 拢45 early in the pandemic to allow more transactions.

My kids are cashless anyway. When out of London they are confused by shops that handle cash 馃槀

I rarely use cash these days myself.
Yulianna22-25, F
@Picklebobble2 that is not evidence, that is paranoia. sorry.

what was the last independent decision you were prevented from making?
Yulianna22-25, F
@SW-User thank you.
Picklebobble256-60, M
@SW-User And as a result that may limit your options sadly.
Elessar26-30, M
@Picklebobble2 Not necessarily, you'll have not only an alternative unofficial currency (and look at how virtual currencies evolved, it's perfectly possible to create a decentralised, relatively safe and completely anonymous system of payment) but also consequently an alternative market for potentially everything. You could potentially play the system and buy/sell some things with the official tracked payment system and others with the alt.
Picklebobble256-60, M
@Yulianna SHOPPING FOR GROCERIES because some of the big places won't accept cash.
Although interesting to note many of the small high street places DO.
Picklebobble256-60, M
@Elessar Which is exactly why it hasn't taken off yet.
Because virtual money is still in the hands of entrepreneurs not banks nor big business !
Yulianna22-25, F
@Picklebobble2 you know the reason for restrictions on cash are to reduce risks of infection.

were you prevented from buying groceries? were you prevented from going to the smaller shops?

just how was your independence of decision making infringed?
Elessar26-30, M
@Picklebobble2 And why it never will, at least for the purpose you suggest.
Picklebobble256-60, M
@Yulianna With companies refusing service for cash you are limited in where you can go if cash is what you wish to use.
Some folk don't trust cards because you often have to wait for the money you've spent to be deducted from your balance and because it doesn't happen instantly (another reason why card payment doesn't work for its customers) they can easily become overdrawn through no fault of their own.
SpoiledbratF
I agree with you 100 percent. I hate traditional banks. @Picklebobble2
TheSirfurryanimalWales61-69, M
@Moonpenny it isn鈥檛 hassling. They send for me every September. It was sky high a while
back
Picklebobble256-60, M
@Spoiledbrat I get why they're attempting to do it.
Western politics has been so devoid of economic ambition for so long it's become about giving those WITH money anything they want so long as it doesn't see them go elsewhere.

Everything else from changes in policy due to terrorism or enabling employers to get away with decimal point pay rises for the last ten years is just horsesh*t !
