They are Arabs
DragonFruit · 61-69, M
@Shine Not necessarily, but they are technically Asians.
Moonpenny · F
@Shine Iranians aren't Arabs
Shine · 22-25, F
@Moonpenny Egyptians aren't Asian
Shine · 22-25, F
Moonpenny · F
@Shine I was talking about Iranians 🤷🏼‍♀️
Shine · 22-25, F
@Moonpenny the question is referring to middle eastern people
Moonpenny · F
@Shine You said that Middle Eastern people were Arabs but Iranians, who are Middle Eastern too, are not Arabs.
Please see your statement at the head of this thread.

@Moonpenny You claimed that middle eastern people are Asians, but Egyptians, who are middle eastern too, are not Asians.
Please see your comment.

It is almost as if the answer isn't that simple, but the majority of middle eastern people identify as Arab
Moonpenny · F
@Shine
By the mid-20th century a common definition of the Middle East encompassed the states or territories of Turkey, Cyprus, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Iran, Israel, the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, Jordan, Egypt, Sudan, Libya, and the various states and territories of Arabia proper (Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Yemen, Oman, Bahrain, ...10 Jun 2020

@Moonpenny And? My statement still holds. The majority of middle-eastern people will identify as an Arab rather than an Asian, as my penpals do. It isn't as simple as geography as I told you before to the classify middle east.
Moonpenny · F
@Shine If you addressed an Iranian person as Arab, they would be highly offended. (Iran being classed as part of the Middle East). I wasn't talking about Egypt at all.
You just threw a complete spanner in the works and started talking about something completely unrelated.
Shine · 22-25, F
@Moonpenny This whole question isn't just about Iran though, one nation, when we are trying to cover the majority of middle eastern people.

There will always be outliers in something complex. As I mentioned before.
Moonpenny · F
@Shine To put it simply.....
You say Middle Eastern people are Arab.
I pointed out to you that Iranians, who are Middle Eastern, are categorically not Arab.
Iranians aren't outliers and it isn't complex.
Iranians are simply not Arab.
Shine · 22-25, F
@Moonpenny They are outliers when 12 nations out of 3 in the middle east are part of the Arab league.
Moonpenny · F
@Shine
The 22 members of the Arab League as of 2018 were Algeria, Bahrain, Comoros, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen. The four observers are Brazil, Eritrea, India and Venezuela.24 Jan 2020

@Moonpenny You may have noticed that I excluded the African members due to our topic being on the Middle East.

You are grasping at straws now... I don’t even know what you’re trying to prove with that source, not even reading my comments properly.
Moonpenny · F
@Shine You can't just disregard half the members of the Arab League and you were the one who mentioned this organisation.
Btw, your previous comment makes absolutely no sense....

They are outliers when 12 nations out of 3 in the middle east are part of the Arab league.
Shine · 22-25, F
@Moonpenny Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Palestine, Syria, UAE, Yemen, Oman Lebanon, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, are Middle Eastern nations.

In comparison to Iran, Israel(which is a byproduct of colonial interference of European powers) and Turkey.

They are relevant to this discussion, because they identify as Arab.

Why would I include the African nations who identify as Arab when we are talking about Middle Eastern people?
Moonpenny · F
@Shine You've missed the point completely. Go back to your original statement:

They are Arabs
I assume you mean all Middle Easterners are Arabs, because that is what you imply.

Not all Middle Easterners are Arabs ..... Iranians are not.

That is the only point I'm trying to make. Ask the Iranian people on here.

Thank you for your time. If you don't agree with this, it's fine but don't try to blind me with inconsequential bullshit just to get the upper hand.

I'm out.
Shine · 22-25, F
@Moonpenny That’s fine, you are missing the point and I see you are jumping ship when confronted with facts.

I didn’t call iranians Arabs, they are outliers as I showed you, just like the Turks.

Your statement claimed they were all asians.

It isn’t a simple answer, like I said before.
Moonpenny · F
@Shine
You can't make such a blanket statement and then renege on it.
I'm making a valid point about Iran and you come muscling in about Egypt 🤷🏼‍♀️
I've already blocked all contact with 18-21 year olds and it's clearly not working, so I'm blocking you instead.
