Nonsense . A broken jaw , shattered cheek or orbit , dental damage , and a concussion ... or a choke hold . Fortunately submission holds are still within the rules ... and in a real life situation its the easiest way to avoid injury while dispatching an attacker .

the point is not to be the best fighter - it is to subdue a person so that he/she can be arrested.
there is no such thing as a fair fight - but choke holds aren't an acceptable tool since it can easily go sideways and become lethal.
