How deep does information mining go?

Basically I am a nobody, a civilian, no government ties, no technology ties, just an average guy, so why would someone in Vietnam be trying to hack my email account? A personal email at that. This is ridiculous.

you are not singled out and targeted specifically.

you are just a single prey in a huge herd of prey. and perhaps easy prey just because you think of yourself as are average.

@Tracos I don't feel as if I am singled out so much, it is more like feeling like they are scraping the bottom of the barrel. When they need to hack a fat old bald guys account to see what I have been doing.

@Roadsterrider its called the long tail... a steady stream of lots of small fishes make for a massive catch... all it takes is a credit card number of social security number or anything personal

@Tracos That's what my asshole hackers are waiting for, a social security number and credit card info that they will NEVER get! They change my settings to "allow payment" in Google but I change it back. They would get mad and call my house!🤣 They don't talk anymore...I just let the phone ring...☎️
I've heard professors of IT discussing the prevalence of hackers mining for access to bank accounts and any kind of personal information which could be exploited. Trojan emails that trick people into replying to unfamiliar email addresses are one of the most common methods.

I have people from Pakistan and India hacking my email account, and they have been for almost ten years! They do it for money,🤑 if you discover who they are they'll do it for the hell of it...just to be mean.🔥👺

They are equal opportunity hackers!!
Peaches · F
@SweetMae Yeah...sandeep (the only hacker here that doesn't change his screen name) has finally blocked me! 😆 He must be getting nervous...
SweetMae · 70-79, F
@Peaches I'm glad he blocked you!! 👌
Peaches · F
@SweetMae Not before I jumped on one of his posts telling him to leave me alone! He never deleted it, he just wouldn't say anything. It was on a post about asking who owned this website.🤔hmmmm

The unsophisticated ones just hack then see what they have.

You have a banking account, credit cards?

@Roadsterrider You would be surprised. You're on SW, right? What other forums do you participate in? Do you used your email for services like insurance, banking, etc? There have been multiple breaches of services. Do you have a cell phone?
Roadsterrider · 56-60, M
@Northwest I do have a cell phone, I am on SW and that is about it. I look for info on other forums but have joined very few, most of the forums I participate in are for hobbies, motorcycles, guns, fishing and vehicles.

These specialized forums are perfect hunting grounds for identity thieves and scammers. Typically, they're run by amateurs with no real experience allowing them to properly protect participants.
