have you ever taken pills that had negative effects? what effects were they?

i don't mean drugs i mean doctor approved medicine
BlueVeins · 22-25
Yeah, I had very bad acne in my teen years, so I went on a variety of medications to try and fix it. By far the worst was Accutane, though, which made my skin very dry and sun-sensitive. Chapped lips, dry eyes, upset stomach, frequent suicidal thoughts (although I had that to begin with, so I'm not really sure I can blame it). I wasn't allowed to donate blood because Accutane blood causes birth defects. And it took several months to actually cure the acne, which... still a Hell of a lot better than nothing. I'm glad I did it, but I'm even more glad that it's over. 🤭

@BlueVeins ooh glad its over now :)
SW-User
yup, terrible side effects that took years to recover from but I'm thankful for it was what helped me realise how doctors are nothing but puppets of Big Pharma
popmol · 22-25, M
@SW-User well then go to a psychologist :) or uuhm psychiatrist like mine i didn't see any string on her :) she is sweet as pie!
SW-User

@SW-User wow that sucks! that eems horrible! be careful!
MeowsoliniReturns · 51-55, F
@SW-User You certainly do! You could have died :(
Yes a handful. Sertraline made me feel suicidal and gave me extreme insomnia (I was awake for days) . Beta blockers slowed my heart dangerously low . Mirtazapine worsened my panic attacks but undid the sleep damage of sertraline but overall makes me feel lethargic. All were given after several wrong diagnoses from general practicians. I am struggling to withdraw from mirtazapine and every time I tapper with my shrink I lose my sleep so for the moment I am still on it even though I technically dont really need it. Also on one antidepressant and antipsychotic I need for OCD.
popmol · 22-25, M
@PepsiColaP ooh glad that sertraline i'm taking now is not doing the same! thats terrible!
wow that all sounds terrible i do hope they work now!
@popmol yeah different medications work differently on different people with different disorders. I do not condemn any of them because they have saved the lives of many I'm rather aware it was my mistake for trusting a general practician when I should have trusted an expert. My psychiatrist was able to reccomend a treatment so quickly and easily he cooked up his magic without looking at a book ,that my brain absolutely loves. I just wish more public funding was put into mental health services as well as other merit goods, but what can you do. I'm lucky I'm financially able to access privatised healthcare. It saved my life . Could save so many others
popmol · 22-25, M
@PepsiColaP ooh i know that :) and yeah sometimes experts are better!
well i'm in europe so my healthcare he re is pricy but way better then most others in the world and i'm glad that most is paid back from the dentist to my psychiatrist apointments!
I cannot take morphine because it makes me physically ill, found that out when I had hernia surgery. I also tried someone's anti-depressant and it made me feel like someone was shutting my brain off. I've tried ritalin too, because I was told it would improve focus, and had the same effect as the anti-depressant except I was jittery.
popmol · 22-25, M
@BrewCityBarfly ooh thats too bad :( i'm sorry to hear that!
@popmol No need to be sorry, I tolerate other pain killers, and mostly don't have a need for prescription drugs.
popmol · 22-25, M
@BrewCityBarfly ooh thats good news :)
SW-User

popmol · 22-25, M

popmol · 22-25, M
@MeowsoliniReturns well here or there is fine for me haha :) i'm autistic and have a slight schizophrenic side but its not that bad said the guy who tested me :)

Thevy29 · 41-45, M
The Doctor gave me Excitalipram for the Depression and at the same time Panadeine Forte for my back pain. 16 hours a day I was asleep. The other 8 I couldn't stop giggling. Not good when you work in Palliative care.
popmol · 22-25, M
@Thevy29 can't you get the job back after you're better?
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
@popmol Not so easy at the moment. With this pandemic. I just have to keep trying.
popmol · 22-25, M
@Thevy29 i hope it works out :)
I was on an antibiotic drip once that needed to be set on a slow drip or else it induced vomiting Obviously the nurses wanted to administer and never see you again for the night and changed the drops / minute. It made me so ill
popmol · 22-25, M
