Why is a gas bill called a bill?

Why not call it a tom or a george?
PhoenixPhailM Best Comment
..or a William (long for bill)?

Tracos51-55, M
because you must be a billionaire to keep your car going
Crazychick36-40, F
@Tracos I haven't got a car. It belongs to my husband and he's not a billionaire, not by a long shot.
Tracos51-55, M
@Crazychick of course not... that is because he has to pay the gas bill....

Bill of sale.
From the late 1700's.

An itemized account of moneys spent or owed by the customer
Crazychick36-40, F
@Picklebobble2 Yes, but why particularly bill? Why not tom or george?
Picklebobble256-60, M
@Crazychick Anglo/Norman: Denoting a written list or catalogue
Crazychick36-40, F
@Picklebobble2 Why didn't they call it a norman, if it was something to do with him? Lol :)

Most people call going to the bathroom "going to the john".

I call it the Jim instead, so I can tell people that I go to the Jim every day... 馃槈
Crazychick36-40, F
@wildbill83 Most people call going to the bathroom "having a bath". A few people call going to the TOILET "going to the john". I don't personally know anybody in real life who says "bathroom" as a substitute for "toilet". Some say "jimmy" for the act of urinating (I need a Jimmy) but I don't because my husband's name is Jimmy. Lol :)

Why not fuel?
Crazychick36-40, F
@ButchersGeneral Gas is a kind of fuel. I'm talking about the bill, not the fuel itself.
