Is trying to eat 1000 calories a day a good idea?

No, and any doctor or dietician would recommend against it. 1200 calories a day is the recommendation in the most extreme cases. 1600-1800 and increased physical activity is a more realistic recommendation for someone who isn’t morbidly obese.
