"Society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in." -old proverb

Shall you help plant some trees? Or are you too busy chopping them down?
SW-User
Wonderful saying. I don't understand how people cannot care for what happens to future generations. "I got mine, so screw everyone else" is not a mindset I will ever have.

@SW-User the past 40 years or so in the US has been particularly bad. We've essentially stopped building generational wealth and are in the process of borrowing it all from the future. In the given analogy we're currently burning the seeds we have.
Have planted over 500 easy!

Over 2000 native plants

And probably planted about 3000 plants in my time.
@BoobooSnafu 🙌🧡
@Vivaci hehe, can you tell I'm just a wee bit of a tree hugger? 😜
Already planted a huge redwood! Hypothetically speaking.

I have planted several trees throughout my lifetime.
This is the house I grew up in and I planted the tree in front of it.

I suppose I agree. Someone has to be selfless to make up for all of the selfish.

No someone else will just chop them down so what's the point?

The proverb is not about actual trees. It's about advocating for changes that you may not live long enough to see pan out. Improving society in ways that you yourself are never going to benefit from.
