I've done water fasts a few times, for health benefits not so much spirituality. Although, I did obtain a miraculous sense of peace a couple times. It was an extraordinarily peaceful feeling.
I started off by having a big-ass pizza the night before. :P Get my sodium, potassium, and fish oils in in preparation. You should still consume electrolytes during a fast, though. Potassium, magnesium, sodium especially. And possibly B-vitamins, otherwise it can suuuuuuuuck. I got hella tired at like 30 hours. B vits. I felt like absolute garbage a couple times. And I got SUPER cold, especially in my extremities.
Longest I've gone is 72 hours.

@sandrides @LireaSemaji My biggest advice is that if you feel like total shit and you're having weird body sensations and such, just eat something. The only bad feeling you should have is hunger.
Your body has to get used to going long periods without food, so if you've never done a 16 hour fast, start there, then work yourself up to 24, 36, 48, etc, over a period of months, unless you feel fine going longer. Don't push through a bunch of discomfort just to hit an arbitrary number.
Another hack is carbonated water really helps with hunger pangs. ^_^ You should only get hungry during your regular meal times, though.
