A lot of words are rooted in religion, for instance goodbye/good-b'wy was originally short for "god be with you". Most languages are rooted in religion so you end up saying things without thinking of them.

The days of the week are rooted in pagan religion, e.g. “Wednesday” = “Woden/Wotan’s day”, the name of a Germanic god (Odin). Most of us don’t think of these meanings when we use these words. @Ryannnnnn
