A lot of words are rooted in religion, for instance goodbye/good-b'wy was originally short for "god be with you".

The days of the week are rooted in pagan religion, e.g. “Wednesday” = “Woden/Wotan’s day”, the name of a Germanic god (Odin). Most of us don’t think of these meanings when we use these words. @Ryannnnnn
