Have you ever been around a person who said they don’t believe in God but....

Used the phrases such as “oh my God” or “thank you Jesus” and “hallelujah” or referred to angels in some way. I was very confused as you can imagine.

Technically saying “oh my God” is a sin so it’s not like believers should be saying it.

These phrases have been ingrained into Western culture; it’s not as if you must be a Christian to utter them.

@SW-User that isn't a sin

@SW-User You’d be surprised how many say it without thinking about it. I do it.

@MartinTheFirst I guess that’s debatable but taking the Lord’s name in vain is a sin

@LireaSemaji God isn't a name, it's a title like "king". And God isn't lord, he's God. Lord would refer to Jesus, which, isn't Jehovah.

@MartinTheFirst it’s in the book of exodus listed as the Ten Commandments. If you’re right then I have no clue what this commandment is referring to and I need clarification.

@LireaSemaji God is a title hence using "oh my god" isnt using God's name in vain because God's name is Jehovah. See??

@SW-User I'm a big reader. I love reading. Last year I realized I hadn't read the Bible so I read it. One of the things I realized after reflecting back on the book in its entirety was how holy those names are. I wouldn't use the name of any supreme being from any religion in a way that doesn't show utmost respect.
