If the "news" (media) discussed their role in the various shootings someone would put 2 and 2 together and make a case for their culpability and sue them. Thus, this, they will not do.
The 24 hour news cycle is one of the worst things to happen to society in modern times, in my opinion. Not because I don't think people have a right to be informed, but because quite frankly sometimes there really isn't that much going on, so they take whatever story they have and they beat that dead horse into oblivion.
When the news was on twice a day, they didn't have time to insert their opinions, and had to report actual news. The time and place for opinion or OP ED pieces was the newspaper, where someone had to carefully think through and put down their thoughts and feelings into full sentences that even someone with a 3rd grade reading level could understand. The media now is not news, but rather simply glorified versions of each and every one of us on the internet. Some state facts, while others scream and rant and spew their hatred and ignorance; but because it's said by a well dressed talking head on tv - we're supposed to take it as gospel.

@Miram It is simple statistics and observations. Let them ban guns, people will find new ways of killing people, that will be obsessed 24/7 in the news cycle then other nutcases will copy that. Just watch.

They won't ban guns and they don't care about banning guns either.
What will happen is that the common people will continue bickering in a trivial manner, never understanding each other's needs and never feeling fulfilled. Too busy throwing labels and feeling right , never reaching a common ground. Your common american gun owner thinking they wanna take his registered gun, and your common minority citizen thinking you want to kick him out.
And maybe some do but that becomes the typical discourse.
While the elites continue to ensure their gains are put first.

Freedom of the loosely named "press" is rather important in this country and is linked to free speech, so, as much as we might wish it, we can't rein them in.
I believe you are 100% correct...the constant shouting from the rooftops sets off one incident, and then another, like dominoes. It is stupid and completely irresponsible, but the news stations are in business to make money, and sensationalism makes money...blood money in some cases.
