How to stop anxious and insecure thoughts from taking over your mind?

I will get so worked up, even to the point of a full blown anxiety attack over small things.

For example, today I went shopping, thinking I could transfer some money from another account. The problem is, I couldn't get a hold of my dad, who has the account details, to transfer the money. So I had no money and no way home from work. I had to walk. I FREAKED out. Looking back, it was silly, but it felt really bad then.

Also, I get really insecure in relationships over trivial things, like him hearting another girls post of something stupid like that.

Large parts of anxiety are about trying to control that which you can't control and expecting doom if you don't. It's OK to let go of the side of the pool sometimes. It doesn't mean that you'll sink like a stone.
@SW-User I agree. It's so hard to just let go sometimes, though. Especially when some things just feel so real.

@lauriethecolourful Try to think of sitting on a plane and gripping the arm rests in terror that the plane might crash. If you relax it won't make it any more likely that it will. If you don't relax you can't stop it anyway. The only thing you achieve is to make the journey unbearable for yourself.
@SW-User That's something a therapist talked over with me years ago. Whatever will happen, will happen regardless of how much or how less you panic about it. I sometimes even find that if I keep expecting something to happen, then it happens.

@lauriethecolourful It's very true. The only think untetheted panic will do is to make everything 100 times harder. Bombarding anxiety with logic is not futile. It can take time but eventually it starts to stick.
@SW-User I agree. I do it successfully sometimes. I find my logical side jumping in before the anxiety can run too far with an idea. But lately it's been difficult for me.
