Both yes and no, they don't have the knowledge of doctors who have attended medical university so theorically for me they're not, but in practice, yes.

I would. Dentists just don’t do cosmetic stuff, but cure a lot of gum and mouth diseases as well.

Yes....my dentist has a degree in dental medicine. He is a doctor of dental medicine.
There are dentists who go on to specialize in individual fields....but they are doctors of dental medicine whether or not they go on to specialize (just as medical doctors, whether or not they go on to specialize).
