Finally discovered why Riff is so insistent at waking me at Oh My God in the mornings.

She wants me to turf Smudge off the bed and have an extended period of cuddles and pats with her. And her alone.
To get my attention she gently scratches my face and claws at my CPAP machine which is highly sensitive and expensive.
But now I know what she wants.

Cats are the greatest when it comes to waking you up, out of the deepest of sleep.
Sometimes I wriggle my toes in the middle of the night, and my cat surprises me by launching a full fledged attack on my foot! There's nothing like cat claws to wake you up!
