What you people heard about Pakistan?

Everything you ever heard of.
4meAndyou · F
They separated from India. They used to be called Bangla Desh, but then they changed their name again. They don't like Hindus as a general rule.

I knew a family of Pakistanis who came to the USA to live. The father was what we call "an exchange scientist"...sort of like an exchange student but a lot older. I always wondered if they had to move because the father was Muslim and the mother was Hindu, but the father also mentioned riots.

The father, Professor A, told me that if he wanted to, he could have more than one wife. I remember that I was really shocked! But he was teasing me. He told me that you have to be able to afford more than one wife. His wife spoke Urdu.

The older son was really cute. He gave me my very first kiss, when I was only thirteen years old.

The family really liked chicken. My mother used to make fun of Nafis.

"We will have dinner on Saturday, at 7:00 p.m., at YOUR house, and we will have chicken!"

@4meAndyou Who told you all this?
4meAndyou · F
@Gumnaam I have a very vague and incorrect memory of Bangla-desh...in a Beatles song, I think...and I am not sure why but when I learned that there a country called Pakistan, I assumed it was all the same country but they had changed their name...again. Sort of like those countries in Africa that are always changing their names.

Regarding Hindus, I know that the country of Pakistan is VERY Muslim, so I suppose I assumed that Hindus were not well loved there.

The rest of it I learned from being WITH the Pakistani family I mention above. They were close to my family and often came over to visit.

Ah...and I remember asking them about Hindus, because I didn't know what they were for sure. What stood out was that the wife emphasized that her religion was different, and told me a little bit about festivals and flowers and so on. But I think it was their son, (who gave me my first kiss), who said that it was not considered good that his father was Muslim and his mother Hindu.

@4meAndyou Well Pakistan came into being in 1947. N everyone is loved here equally without any discrimination of cast or religion, but we have some rednecks here too.

Wraithorn · 51-55, M
Everything ? Well it's not much. Firstly cricket comes to mind. Apparently their team is pretty good. I'm not sure why I know that because I don't watch cricket.
And then recently I have read a lot in the news about their government and India's who have been accusing each other of various things. Now they seem to be seeking to calm things down and talk truce.
Wraithorn · 51-55, M
@Gumnaam Oh and one more thing I just remembered. Years ago I bought a cellphone from a pakistani shop in my country. It turned out to be a counterfeit piece of junk even though it looked like a Nokia. Those dudes in that shop were not very good ambassadors for Pakistan.
Gumnaam · 31-35, M
Hahahahahahah..!! We are really good at it. My apologies for your loss but all fingers are not of same size.
Wraithorn · 51-55, M

Mainly what I hear about it is that it's unstable. Prone to violence, terrorism, fundamentalism. And that they hate India.
Gumnaam · 31-35, M
@SW-User We don't hate India or Indians, but yes we have our differences.

Outside of the obvious things everyone thinks about when they think of Pakistan, I’ve heard a lot of great stuff about the mountain climbing in the area. A few mountains with virgin peaks and some of the most tactical climbing in the world. It’s a goal of mine to go climbing in Pakistan
