Let me add something just as a matter of interest.
I was a policeman in South Africa for 21 yrs. For the first 3/4 of my career I dealt with all crimes except traffic offences. This is because we have seperate traffic police here.
Then suddenly we were told that each of us MUST issue a certain amount of traffic fines per month. If we didn't we would be disciplined.
So we reluctantly had to waste time on traffic offences while more serious offences happened elsewhere.
People thought we were pigs and targetting them unnecessarily.
In other words...not all cops are pigs. It is their employer the government who is the pig.
The same government that people vote into power. Unfortunately the police are the frontline of that government and must take the abuse that actually should be aimed at their employer, your government and everyone who voted for that government which may very well include yourself.

At night you see the reflection. During the day it's harder to see.
The idea is that they catch more traffic violators because they might fly by if they don't see it's a police vehicle.

@HannahSky what I have always found strange in law enforcement practice is entrapment. They hide their is dark corners then jump on you if you commit a violation even on an empty road. Lol it looks more like they're out there to catch people who are good at hiding their bad behavior. It's morality policing.

@eMortal Not necessarily. If you are driving illegally, you are. If you are commiting a crime, you are. You shouldn't be violating the law. Usually if you find an area where people are reporting lots of speeding, for example, you can bet that you will find police staking out the area sooner or later to slow down the traffic.

Even in US cops on traffic duties are in marked cars. Detectives solving crimes don't have to be in cars screaming "look at me, I'm a cop!"
