@WaterSpirit: IMO most women do not pursue the upper corporate hierarchy, but rather pursue a balance between work and family values..lots of times, after marriage and starting a family, they prefer quality family time over corporate ladder climbing..

There is no wage gap. What makes it seem like there is a difference is that women do not work as many paying hours and so earn less on average.
