I always do. Had a black dude flip out on me a few months ago because he "didn't need no white man's help" and I did not know how to react
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@Charlieday that's hilarious
No, it's not wrong.
And if some one DOES complain,
It's proper to trip them,
and laugh.
You're welcome.

@Fernie I know...stop the world..😟

No, I do it often. When someone does it for me, I say thank you like a decent human being😛
No especially holding the door older people isn't wrong. What made you ask this?
You know about 6 years ago on a very snowy afternoon. I drove to a service station for gas I ended up getting a 50 pound bag of salt.
I ended up being the last customer. The cashier was Hispanic about 25 years old. I paid for the gas an melting salt picked up the bag and was carrying out of the station the cashier raced in front of me I thought he was going to hold the door open for me he went out and let the door slam in my face.
I didn't have to wonder why he did this it was because because of age if I had been in my 20's like he, he would have politely held the door open for me.
I have witnessed this happening to other middle aged women. Young men standing at the side of public doors frowning at older women as they passed through waiting for younger women that were walking behind the older ladies and opening and holding the door wide open with a huge for the young girl.
So to answer your question one last time,"open the door for people" they probably will appreciate your kindness!!!!

As I was brought up, this was "expected", as were "Thank You", "May I?", "You're welcome.", "Excuse me" and other phrases and expression that showed courtesy and politeness.

@soar2newhighs it seems like the world is changing
More like it has changed.@Notanymore
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@soar2newhighs true....but judging by the answers.... maybe it's just a myth that people get offended if you hold the door for them
luctoretemergo · 61-69, M
Never wrong....and here's a fun fact, if your at a revolving door - your supposed to go first and gently push/guide it for the person behind you.
Yeah...I'm a regular Ms. Manners today...

Depends from which end you open the door and especially if the door is in their house ..
KaiserSolze · 46-50, F
@in10RjFox 😂
Loretta78 · 46-50, F
No, it isn´t. I often hold the door open for people. It is an act of politeness.
gummybears · F
Depends... do they have masks on?
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@gummybears masks?
gummybears · F
Yes and shotguns too.. if so, don’t hold the door open for them 🤔
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@gummybears what if it's raining? Their shotgun might get wet

SW-User
seriously? questioning niceties in society is just off

SW-User
@Notanymore I've never heard that and think it's bizarre..I experience more nice people in this world than not. I'm not in America though 🙄
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@SW-User Maybe it's just here....or just in the urban environments here
xixgun · M
@Notanymore Some people find that you're a man offensive. Fuck 'em and the horse they rode in on.
FreeSpirit1 · F
No
LyricalOne · F
Yes, it’s horrible, an affront to my sensibilities.
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@LyricalOne how so?
eMortal · M
It's good only when necessary.
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@eMortal necessary?
eMortal · M
@Notanymore yes. I see some overzealous guys hold the door for a line of 20 people they don't know. In the mean their girlfriend is waiting for them inside.
Notanymore · 41-45, M
Okay..... that's an interesting thought...
rjc36 · 61-69, M
No I do it all the time. There is nothing wrong with being polite to others.

SW-User
Yes
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@SW-User hmmmmmm....that sounds fairly reasonable

SW-User
@Notanymore and I just wanted to be a jerk and be the opposite of other people answering your question. I hold the door open all the time. 😩
Notanymore · 41-45, M
@SW-User okay.... I'm beginning to think that the whole thing is a myth about people being offended by it
YoMomma ·
No but if you do it just to check someone out then they could be annoyed
If you do it for everyone then its fine
If you do it for everyone then its fine
yes, for a secured facility.
Celt50 · 51-55, M
I hope not, I do it all the time
Somewhereovertherainbow · 51-55, F
If it is then I'm in trouble...

SW-User
No
I don't think so.

Not at all.. It's wrong to let it go in their face though...
KaiserSolze · 46-50, F
Yes. The correct etiquette is to throw it in their face. If it hits them on the nose that's considered especially polite.
