or

A Hostile position, taken by many, that is misdirected hatred that seems obsessed with the idea that we're in the worst possible world, and every straight, man is to blame.

Well, I was born in Yemen, and in my country of birth, feminism was a social movement that sought to earn women the right to go to school and to walk around in public without a male chaperone. So that's usually what I think of when I hear that word.
@BlueMetalChick thanks especially, context means a lot
@BlueMetalChick especially from your story, women in America have forgot just how things have changed, in just a short while, yet have little recollection of the days they were mostly property.
YET i must acknowledge there are some women, who take an opposite position

@BlueMetalChick I agree...but sadly in the US, it doesn't.

@abe182 Feminism in the USA needs to shift focus. Women do now have equal rights. Meaning the objective needs to change from "empowering women" or "women's rights" to stuff like "stop being a dick to people for their gender." So, don't ridicule women for being physically weaker than men, and in the reverse to, don't berate men if they show emotional distress. Same with stuff like rape. I've known more than one male who has been raped, and subsequently shit on by everyone else, called a sissy and a faggot and a twink, and told to go fuck themselves.

@BlueMetalChick well said!

@BlueMetalChick American women very much do NOT have "equal rights". You would have to be living here for a while to really understand and you have to be AVERAGE in abilities to personally feel the discriminations. Exceptional women can always beat the game. But don't be fooled.

but there is a HUGE game still and it is ugly and unjust.

Major pay discrepancy still...

Refusal to hire for bad reasons happens to more women than men

Unjust firings happen MORE for women esp the rank and file sector

Abuse in the workplace is suffered by women WAY more than men.

Mental health in America is more abusive for women than for men.

Women can't find partners like men can. There is much more "minefield" effect with women and most men refuse to acknowledge it but it is soooooo true.

Women have a harder time just trying to live alone and do her own thing. One obstacle is pay discrepancy, the burdens of childrearing and marriage dependency that men just don't experience.

Women have a WAY harder time qualifying for public service positions such as City Manager, Mayor and aldermen.

I could give a hundred more examples.

On the other hand life in Yemen seems to be a literal HELL for most residents.

Like the actual country no longer exists!!

And my country is ultimately responsible for that catastrophe, I should add. Without US support the Saudis would have to revert to less terror and MORE democracy, they would have no choice.

They are America's proxy along with Israel...in the Middle East.

What do we suppose...they are trying to PROTECT?

Sure isn't FEMINISM!!

@Platoscave Those problems you named all exist in the workplace. "Equal rights" only refers to how you're treated by the government and the law. Although that's a rather narrow scope to look at, I suppose.
