Is a gift card an acceptable gift to give at a bridal shower?

Usually I would go buy a proper gift but I've been busy all month with school, exams to get into the bachelors program for my major, and attending volunteer events/interning for credits towards my classes and haven't had any free time to do so. I had to call someone yesterday to even go buy a card and gift card since I wasn't sure if I'd even have the time to go do that. The bridal shower is tomorrow and I have about 3 hours of free time finally but I'm kind of freaking out about whether it's okay to just give a gift card or if I need to go out a figure out something else to give. This is the first bridal shower I'm attending on my own and isn't for family so I'm not really sure about proper gift giving etiquette.
