does depersonalization count? Because I have been experiencing it for years and I don't even know how it started or how to fix it.

Yeah when I was in my teens (13-16) I had a lot of depression issues and I was an awful student. Even went to 3 mental hospitals and a school for emotional issues. I completely improved (even went off my drugs cold Turkey though the Doc wasn't happy about it 😅) in both areas.

But I have the same problem from time to time. More so when it comes to school, since I think immaturity had to do with my depression. So now I'm a pretty obsessive college student. 😅

Anyway, I realized that if you focus on the actions that led you to the place you are now and realize how much you matured over time, then it won't be as scary.
Going back to the figurative “scene of the crime” is (of course!) going to bring back memories of that time. Could it cause a relapse? It might. It could be that you have not fully expunged or processed the feelings you encountered at that time and in that place. What’s important to remember is “That was then. This is now.” You are a different person. You’ve been through your crucible. You are changed. Strength is not gained in owning a sword. Strength is gained in picking it up.
I had a panic attack many years ago while in bed. I was afraid to get back in that bed that night and had real issues falling asleep again for quite a while. I had to rearrange my room in order to feel like I was in a different bed.

There would be a lot of possible stimulus for triggers to take you to that dark emotional experience. I would be very guarded and ready.

It’s very logical...
many things can trigger when one experienced trauma in their life...
Places, sights, scents, etc

Absolutely. 2 specific places I try to avoid
Steve42 · 56-60, M
Just the opposite. (Ex GF got possessed.)
Caprice · 41-45, F
Yes. It might be illogical, but it happens.

Not place related
@Brianthesnail I know that. I know that my thoughts are not logical at all, but they were still thoughts that I had, and I had to address them. :)

I meant that in my case it was not place related
