Why are girls told to be a lady when they're not women yet?

My female cousins and I got scolded for not acting like ladies. Boys always get away with shit.

cos that's how you reinforce the patriarchy, tbh. 'Ladies' are meant to be genteel and subservient, and the only way for that to happen is to drum it into kids heads before they can know better.
