is $500 a lot of money to you?

Top | New | Old
Depends on context.
I tend to be pretty conservative with money, but don't mind spending that amount on something that is going to last or is truly worth the splurge.

Given my debt ratio, it's a drop in the bucket

I would put it in the bank. My BF would go out and buy a new GAME rather than look to the future or fix his car. Yes $500. is a lot of money. But I don't like to spend or use my money unless there is a good reason. I still go to used clothing stores.
I grew up very poor and I have got over that by not spending. My BF is all over me for not just taking off and going on a Cruise. He tells me all the things he would buy if he had my bank account.
Fact is I have accounts because I grew up poor. I was in those movies where people struggled for a mouthful of anything.
We had fruit trees all around us. I never was hungry.
I don't have home owners insurance. If I need a new roof I go take it from my bank. I don't buy a new car every year. This one I have may be old but it runs fine and payment free. My parents never had enough to set aside for an emergency. A few days on a cruise ship might be nice. But I will wait till Hurricane season is over.

No, about the average weekly grocery/shopping bill...

Was a fortune when I was in college though...could have lived like a prince on that back then

To be honest, at this time of my life, No, it is not. Unlike most that I know; I learned to save as soon as I acquired my first job. I purchase from second hand clothes. I fear any loss.
I worked many years and invested with stock while there. Poverty is what I fear most in my life. Personally I am far from it. However the poverty in which I was raised is deeply embedded.
