How do companies protect themselves from disgruntled workers that are fired ?

I have read about the story of a maniac shooting 5 men because the jerk got fired . I know many employees that don't do their job right and deserve to be fired .

An old boss of mine said he would only fire people at the end of the day on a Friday. The reason-> they had 2 days to process their emotions and less likely to do anything stupid.

@Cajunfirefly That might work if it is a company that is not open on weekends but many companies these days are open 7 days a week

Nothing crazy happen when I was there.
Plus I was let go on a Friday, but I knew it was coming. I had a duffle bag in the car
