This is so weird. My friend was just telling me his grandparents used to make handkerchiefs out of flour sacks.

And I was telling him that my grandmother never gave a scrap of worn out clothing away. Instead she would cut off every button to save for the next shirt she would sew, and she would use every bit of wool patched together to make a liner for her crazy quilts.

She also saved plastic bread bags and knotted them together to make enormous balls of "yarn", and she would crochet bread bag door mats.
