Superstitions are weird.
In one U.S. state's old folklore, it is bad luck to leave your socks in your shoes overnight; in another state's, that is good luck.

@SW-User People didn't necessarily see it that was in the 19th century. Clothes are more affordable now, and laundry is much less time-consuming.
