one idea is we are not ready,, planet still under the control of criminal syndicates, constantly at wars, constantly preying on each other and destroying the planetary environment.

there will never be faster than light travel. not for us, not for them
they cannot get to us, nor we to them except for multiple generational transport.
the bubble of our em band emission is not even 100 light years across, and very very weak. Jupiter has natural EM signals that dwarf most of what we have made. so it is unlikely anyone has "heard " us yet
