So I had a conversation with a millionaire.

I was walking down to the store from my apartment and as i gear closer to the storefront, there’s this Mercedes parked out front, I proceed to hold the door of the store open for the people exiting and entering, before I enter my self.

I was stopped by one of the bystanders exiting the store, he thanked me for holding the door and asked me “do small gestures of kindness satisfy you?”

I replied “no, I was just raised to be a gentleman, you know hold the door, be polite to pregnant women give them your seat, etc etc”

His final response to me was “don’t ever settle for what you aren't worth.”

I’m sitting here confused because it happened so quickly, am I missing something here?
I don't think you are. His advice may have had more to do with himself than you.
He's only telling you to expect people to value you. Don't accept being undervalued.

@TwiddlerofThumbs I can do that, I hate being stepped on.

I apologize for being irrational @TwiddlerofThumbs
@Dateless it's ok. we all have our moments.

Whether he was a millionaire or not is irrelevant and not sure why that was what some people are focused on but I think he was saying that all people have value whether they are rich or poor and that you should never listen to anyone who tries to devalue you because your worth to the world is minute in comparison of how you see your own value. When he asked you if small gestures satisfy you, he was attempting to see where your heart is and what makes you tick. Just my interpretation.

Nah I’m not going to listen to the guy driving the beat up Honda about life advice, he’s no position to do so.

But the guy in the Benz, yeah drop fun facts, I’m listening and taking notes.

My heart is good, but do I enjoy being polite for the fuck of it? Not really sometimes it’s forced @Fungirlmmm
Fungirlmmm · 51-55, F
@Dateless I like the polite side of you better btw. ;)

And I understand how some people look at it, but I know several people worth millions and they actually do not drive fancy cars. My former boyfriend, for example, has a net worth of about somewhere between 4 and 5 million. He has always driven Ford trucks and he doesn't get a new one every year. Sometimes you can't judge a book by its cover.
Dateless · 31-35, M
Oh I know that.

@Fungirlmmm
Did he tip you for opening the door or, does he go around waving his bank statement around?
Dateless · 31-35, M
No, you can just tell people have money from the shoes on their feet, the suit they wear down to the tie and he drove a maybach, Ima stop and listen what you have to say.

I’d advise you do the same, whatever it is could be beneficial and luckily for me I guess i got some advice I had been seeking for @LithiumDrop
@Dateless Appearances are everything and nothing at the same time.
Dateless · 31-35, M
It’s the value of It all.

You can’t down play a quarter million dollars if it were front of you.

@LithiumDrop
OOhhhh a Millionaire !! wow did he have a DEE - LUXE apartment in the sky. HA ----a millionaire.
Dateless · 31-35, M
you're patronizing and small talking to me like I’m some child.@MarmeeMarch
@Dateless Making something out of nothing - can dish it out but cant take it -OK I will stop the replies
Dateless · 31-35, M
Go insult me on those post, don’t wait until I make a new post to pick a fight.

That’s speaks volumes about your character.

[c=#BF0080]Seems confusing enough..Maybe he meant only settle for what you’re worth?[/c]
MellyMel22 · F
@Dateless [c=#BF0080]I wouldn’t take it as offensive, I think his wording just may be off..[/c]
Dateless · 31-35, M
I’m not offended by it at all, I’m inspired @MellyMel22

There were 11,000,000 millionaires in the USA as of 2017, so chances are pretty good you know one or will run into one. There is a BIG difference between being worth a million dollars and having an income of a million.
Dateless · 31-35, M
Idk I pay for everything cash, my first car I paid cash, my second car I paid cash, I pay cash for everything I don’t take shortcuts I don’t use credit or debit cards, I use nothing but cash.@ChipmunkErnie
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@Dateless Good idea. I use credit cards but pay them off in full every month. Been doing that for over 50 years. Generally, if I can't afford it, I don't buy it. Only things I've bought "on time" is one car and my house.
Dateless · 31-35, M
I just don’t trust banks @ChipmunkErnie
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
It sounds like he was saying to stop being polite if you don't enjoy it... But I may just be reading it weird.
