Do you think that some mental illnesses can be considered as first world problems?

I mean the ones that won't put someone's life in danger, I haven't heard of someone dying from Dyslexia for example.

Is dyslexia even classified as mental illness? I thought it was learning disability of some sort. But to answer your question, I think we evolve along with the environment (and the environment is evolving along with us) so in different places there are different problems. I guess some mental illnesses have a higher chance of developing in the first world, others appear most in the third world. That's my guess.
@HannibalAteMeOut Disablities and illnesses are pretty similar in that case, disabilities are mostly illnesses. True it depends on a lot of factors.

Not exactly on topic, but sort of: recent studies show that a significant cause of children being diagnosed with ADHD is sending them to school too young. Turns out many kids just aren't mature enough for school at the age they;re sent, and if they;re allowed a year to mature the ADHD rate drops very significantly.
@ChipmunkErnie Some health departments in some 3rd world countries don't even know what ADHD is. But like Scissorhands said it really depend on where you live and how your society sees mental illnesses.

@PiecingBabyFaceTogether Our society seems to be driven to a great extent by the belief than anything that doesn't fit into a narrow, artificially defined "norm" MUST be eradicated. Conformity MUST be achieved.

@kingkyri you are quite wrong in that assumption

@kingkyri That definitely makes it a first world problem while still taking it's seriousness into consideration.

You should probably reevaluate yourself, just generally. Mental health is not a privilege.
@WhyMeIAskedTheVoid I'm serious I would trade my physical illness for some lame mental problem, well to me some are lame like the one I mentioned.
WhyMeIAskedTheVoid · 26-30, M
@PiecingBabyFaceTogether I can't speak to any physical illness you have, but it's a failure of imagination if you believe a mental one would be better.
@WhyMeIAskedTheVoid That's why I specified the non life threatening ones. Trust me I live in a place where they believe that depression isn't life threatening which is stupid cuz it definitely is a big deal and the world loses a lot of lives to it everyday. You can disagree but I'm just saying that some mental illnesses are just so lame.

No, they really aren't - but that's a very First World attitude, to regard yourselves as so different to the rest
No. But it is frustrating lol!
