I was in a mental clinic being treated for a suicide attempt and drugs. One of the worst years of my life. I stayed for almost the whole year. I thought movies like the one where Jack Nicholson was in that mental institution was a joke. Until i was sent to one myself. Those places are aweful and heartless.

I'm sorry about that @Dr3am

I was in the Army. I had 3 squares a day, a roof over my head, never had to worry about what I was gonna wear to work. It certainly could have been worse.

I was in the Marines. Getting to hang out in SoCal on my days off, drink cheap beer, surf, and play with all kinds of fun toys. Good times!
I decided I was going to change me. I had been shy, introverted, and very quiet. Studious. My mom said I woke up with the devil in me. That was her opinion. I started using my voice and I haven't stopped since. I needed to get my words out. To stop injustices. To let the world know how I felt. I am proud of who I am and of what I have accomplished in my life. And I am still a warrior for others. I think very few are set in their lives at age 18.

@Stereoguy It was hard to start. But once I got going, I felt so much better. It was liberating. It is difficult to change a lifestyle or one's personality, but the rewards are so positive and so inspirational. I can do most anything I set my mind too. Most people can. The effort is large. And I have read it takes 21 days to change a habit. Now a lifestyle is longer and so is a personality. But, if one has it inside, it can be freed. I am so much happier. I like trying new things. I love me. The more free one becomes, the happier and fulfilled one becomes. And the circle of love gets larger as your happiness spreads to others who see what positive change accomplishes in your life.

Are you going to make some changes, my friend?

Frustrating, and a little worrisome. I wasn't getting good grades in school, so I didn't know what would become of me after graduation. But then I got my first job, right out of high school. That was a relief, and very satisfying (though I wasn't making much money). So I guess it was pretty awful at first, but then it got better.

I was working full time. I had purchased a new car and I was paying room and board at home. Looking forward to a career in computer programming.
SW-User
That's great but like computers must have not been much of a career back when you were 18? @SweetMae
SweetMae · 70-79, F
@SW-User They were just beginning to show up in businesses like insurance.

@SweetMae Oh that makes sense

I never had a life

When I look back to that time, my life was simple. I was going to university. I was healthier and happier because my mom was still alive... Fast forward to about 10 years later and I wish I was a kid again

Very messed up. I got married right out of high school and was divorced two months later. Then I moved into my own apartment with two roommates and we were evicted one month later.
SW-User
@4meAndyou It could have been worse
4meAndyou · F
@SW-User It got worse later...when I married for the second time, and still worse again when I married for the third time.
Reflection2 · 41-45, M
Simple! focused with two things only- lots of sports activities and challenging with studies(to qualify to University). Nothing else.
RubySoo · 56-60, F
I loved it. I was still at school when i turned 18 andbi loved it. I had the best friends in the world. Like was good. I was happy living at home with my family and i was dating a guy ( a very unsuitable one) whom i adored. Later that year i left school and went to work in a chemists....where again i was lucky enough to gave many good friends.
Being 18 was cool. X
RubySoo · 56-60, F

My family was thousands of miles far ago, in another country.
I lived alone in my first house an took care of it.
I worked hard.
Studied sciences at the Uni.
Had a GF.
Was engaged with what have to be done about social justice in my country.

At18 I was dedicated to my sport, never thinking what may lay ahead, fortunately my father lead me to an apprenticeship. Now I am old and settled, happy and content, having past through many stages of living.

It was good. It started sleeping on the door step because I'd forgotten my key. I woke up covered in snow.
