Is this seriously needed to be said? In the 21st century

First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me

This is what you are signing up to with hatred people. Hate the bigots not the colour, the religion, the creed.the politics or the people who follow it
Listen to and accept differnet views. You do not have to agree just accept and sometime agree to disagree
The only way to stop the divide an conquere mindset

What specific groups are you applying this to?

oh dear
You really did not get it did you
Pleae please go and educate yourself
YOU are who I`m talking about
@scotsbiguy: I'm just asking a question. So many groups are coming into my head that could fit this poem, and I was wondering what specific groups you're talking about.

Since when is asking a question a crime, or even a determination of someone's character?

If this is an all-encompassing poem, then you can just tell me that instead of labeling me as a "bigot" for asking a question. I, for one, have faced discrimination myself because of my skin color. I was just curious if you were directing this post at a specific modern issue.

@Kindred: Take your head out your feckin arse and think about what it is saying
ARe you that thick?
For those hard of understanding
I WILL SPELL IT OUT
DO TRY KEEP UP
HATE TO ANYONE BECAUSE OF RACE/SEX/CREED/ SEXUAL PREFERENCE?
OR JUST COS YOU DONT LIKE THIER LIFE CHOICES IS A BIGOT

SIMPLE ENOUGH now
TEsta di katzo
dumpkopf
@scotsbiguy: Dude, chill. I understand the intended meaning of the poem. I'm just asking what specific socioeconomic groups do you have in mind when you mentioned that this still applies to the 21st century? You still haven't answered that question. Are you applying this to Muslims? Migrants? African Americans? Homosexuals? All of 'em? It's a simple question that you've blown way out of proportion.
@scotsbiguy: Your profile says, "A pretty chilled out, open minded sort of guy". In light of recent developments, I think you should change that.
scotsbiguy · 51-55, M
@Kindred: sorry for what seems as a narky response
but you need to go and sue your teachers if you are unable to interpret that poem. You are sadly lacking in the tools you need
You should know it as part of the curriculum
It applies to a situation not a "people"
The fact that you are seeking to " who does that apply to now " shows you are unable to understand the message
@scotsbiguy: I've read and analyzed this poem before in school. I understand its intentions, but situations still involve people. This poem, especially, studies the interactions of different groups in society. Out of curiosity, I was asking you what modern situation you're applying this poem to? Is that too much to ask?
scotsbiguy · 51-55, M
and just to feck with what appear to be your mental state
It was written by an israeli poet
seriously Please please try understand what these verses say and what they mean, It will open a whole new world to you
@scotsbiguy: Like I said, I understand it. I believe, and correct me if I'm wrong, that you just don't know how to answer my question, so you're beating around the bush. If anyone has a deteriorating mental state, 'tis you, my friend. 'Tis you.
scotsbiguy · 51-55, M
@Kindred: NO i don`t believe you have
If you do truly understand it and what it say`s you would realise that it is just as relevant if you replace certain words with IRISH
OR CATHOLICS
IT is not about One time One group
IT is about apathy and self presevation
ABout will YOU STAND when your neighbours are taken or will you do nothing
AND when you need someone to fight for you, what if they are no longer there?
scotsbiguy · 51-55, M
it is about hummanity and its strenghts and weaknesses
@scotsbiguy: Also, it's a pretty famous poem, so don't think you're special for knowing who wrote it. You could've just said Martin Niemöller, I don't know why you ambiguously said "Israeli poet". Hopefully you'll learn one day how to dissolve your superiority complex.
scotsbiguy · 51-55, M
IF you are unable to grasp that sue your feckin teachers
Its basic
scotsbiguy · 51-55, M
NOT ABOUT THIS TIME OR THE 40`s OR THE 2050`s
@scotsbiguy: Like I said, I know what the poet is trying to get across. Most students analyze this poem in middle school. No need to reiterate your middle school English teacher. I'm just saying, you specified that this still applies to the 21st century. What specific groups sparked this thought process? Clearly you can't answer this question, or you wouldn't be making such a big deal out of this. Maybe you don't comprehend the question? It's a simple question. The answer may be complex, but the question itself is not.
scotsbiguy · 51-55, M
@Kindred: NO i am merely pointing out how ridiculous the question is and are you in an alternate world?
Are you telling me there isn`t a modern day progrom against a race of people?
@scotsbiguy: When did I ever say that? Are you even reading what I'm saying? It's not a ridiculous questions, it's perfectly sound. I'm literally asking you, what race of group of peoples do you think this poem applies most closely to today. Honestly, I'm going to stop replying. This is just going around in circles. For an "open minded sort of guy", you sure aren't open minded.
scotsbiguy · 51-55, M
well I am until I come across people that try defend bigotry and try have a sensuble debate but cant interpret a poem simply
@scotsbiguy: To be honest, I didn't know brick walls could access the internet.
scotsbiguy · 51-55, M
YOu better believe I will come after bigots and racists and that will never stop
@scotsbiguy: I'm not defending bigotry. I've faced discrimination based on race myself. You know what? Speaking to you is absolutely pointless. Have a nice night. ✌
scotsbiguy · 51-55, M
I repeat If you feel that you have to "how does that apply to now " YOU HAVE FAILED TO GET THE POINT OF THE POEM
@scotsbiguy: I never said, "How does that apply to now?" I asked what specific groups do you personally think this applies to the most. I was asking for your opinion. It's not my fault that you failed to understand that. I can't sit here correcting your misinterpretations of my intentions all day. Like I said, have a nice night. Buenas noches, mi amigo. 🌚
scotsbiguy · 51-55, M
@Kindred: wasn`t me that tried to apply a timelss poem and statement to
"How does that apply today"
and don`t bother with the bailing out and oh I`ve suffered racism line
I`m Half Scots half irish and know far more about sectarianism and hate than i wish I did
the fact remains You wanted to know how it applies to today WHen i Ponted out you failed to get it
You didn`t like it and failed to give any credible reason for the stance
YOU failed to understand the poem
